The journey into fitness can be a lifelong, altering experience. But how does one begin the venture? Be it lifelong or short-term, once understood, the application will change your life.
Are we simply born fit? Is it “in our genes?” Does it take a horrific diagnosis with some incomprehensible medical condition? Could it be your stairs have become more and more difficult to climb? Or are we just feeling this great force of gravity, pulling our body parts closer to the floor?
One way or another, a majority of us have not even considered our state of health. We are just “too busy” with the kids, the job, school, grocery shopping, laundry, the in-laws; the excuses are endless.
For those of us who are lucky and blessed with those “fit” genes, sure, it's genetic, but unless we take charge of our mind and body, the unhealthy stuff creeps upon us before we have figured out what happened to our 20s, let alone our 40s and 50s. Fear of the unknown deters us. Seek the proper guidance and familiarize yourself with the immense scale of benefits to a fit and healthy lifestyle. Once the proper knowledge is bestowed upon you, there will be no going back.
I confess that one of my strongest characteristics -namely vanity -is definitely to blame for my journey into fitness. I can recall being vain as early as kindergarten. My mom could attest to it.
Every day, unless I was wearing a dress and my hair was in place, I probably had a stomachache. Oh, yes, it's genetic! And then, I believe what is called an epiphany attacked my soul.
So, simultaneous with getting a divorce, I made a career change as well, from an executive secretary to fitness consultant/personal trainer. Finally, at 31, I figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up. To myself, the world of fitness became truly recognizable as my passion. And this passion has evolved into a mission, one that provides me with the ability to educate and motivate others.
The mind is an incredible tool. Strength and power are amazing attributes. Stay connected. Your mind is your ruler. I am certain we have all heard the expression, “You can do anything you put your mind to.” Please, don't let another minute or excuse overcome you. Begin your journey to a healthier you.
If you or someone you know would like to share a real life fitness story or perhaps you have questions pertaining to fitness, I welcome the opportunity to hear from you.
Over the past 15 years I have met countless people, listened to their stories including their fears, desires, likes and dislikes. I hope that I have made a difference, even if only for a fraction of a moment. I thank each and every one of you who have chosen to seek my expertise. I will continue to strive in the health and fitness industry. Stay focused, balanced and consistent.
Until we meet again, keep it fit.
